See below information regarding this very important issue coming up in October. Two points (or three);
The ICC has changed its By-laws creating a path for Building Safety Professionals to join the ICC and vote at the code hearings. I suggest that members of the fire sprinkler industry send as many representatives as possible to take part in October.

NOTE FROM MANAGER OF CODES NFSA
The ICC application. On Page 3, is the individual membership fees. Apply as an individual! (in your own name and address, not the business name). You’ll have voting rights in Baltimore.
Apply for the Building Safety Professional for $100/yr or the Individual Temporary at $50 (lasts four months – no free code book). Applications can be submitted online (www.iccsafe.org) and paid by credit card, but must be completed by Oct. 14 (10 days before the hearing starts).
Until the code change order is processed, it’ll be difficult to pinpoint the exact day. However in the meantime, we can get registered, make hotel arrangements. It would be safe to say at this point, arriving before early Wed and plan on a late Fri departure. Since the IRC changes are in Section 313 and now all of the I Codes Chapter 1 (Admin) is another part of the CDH, we may go early, noonish Wed on. Ch 2 for definitions shouldn’t take long and changes in the past prior to Section 313 have been light. However, too vague to call specifically, but at least we have a window.
Any questions or confusion, please contact me. This is your chance to keep residential sprinklers in the code. After this cycle, and after CA and other states adopt more and more, the fever of the NAHB will die down and res sprinklers will stay put.
The Hearings can now be registered for also at www.iccsafe.org. Attached is the hearing schedule. The IRC hearing is highlighted.
NOTE: The Code Hearings are free, all of the other programs and activities do cost, but are not necessary for our part.
Make sure you pass on to the trades also….Fitters, Contractors, anyone with an interest in public safety can vote in Baltimore.
